The Harper Lake Model Yacht Club (HLMYC) meets regularly on Louisville Colorado's Harper Lake (and other nearby waters)
to sail model sailboats.
We sail a standard "club boat," the Thunder Tiger Victoria (shown in the pictures at right
and below). The Victoria is modeled after the America's Cup yachts and is 30 inches in length, stands over 4 feet tall, and
weighs about 4.5 pounds.
We have recently started a second class in our club. We have selected the ODOM as our higher performance
class. It is another one design class that is somewhat larger than the Victoria. It is 39.37 inches in length,
and stands about 6 feet tall and weighs 7 lbs.
These boats rely completely on the wind for their propulsion
and have only two, small, servo motors on board - one to control the position of the sails and another to control the direction
of the boat (rudder). The models are operated from shore using radio-controlled (R/C) transmitters, each boat on a different
radio frequency.
The principles involved in sailing these models are exactly the same as for real yachts. If you've
sailed before, you'll find that the models handle amazingly true to life. If you don't know how to sail, the skills come quickly
and easily.
It's great fun. Take a few minutes to explore our site and learn more about model sailing and the Harper
Lake Model Yacht Club!
